Ocean City has been a proven golf destination for several decades, drawing more golfers from the Northeast US, and enticing Canadians that have flocked to Myrtle Beach, SC. Ocean City can offer a high-end golf experience, the activity and hum of the beaches, plenty of places to hang after your rounds and a full variety of accommodations. Spring and fall temperatures are mild enough, but the drive is less enough, to warrant giving Ocean City a try. While most golfers try to get an early start to their game with a spring trip, Ocean City offers opportunities throughout the year. We get this question a lot, so here is our best advice. The peak and busiest time of year for the courses is mid April through mid June and mid September through October. Green fees are higher and tee time availability is harder to come by.However, weather wise, it’s the most sought out time for getting away to this destination. Thankfully, accommodations aren’t as busy, thus counter the higher golf fees. However, if you are willing to travel another time of year, you may want to try some of the following times. Any trip before mid April or after November will drive some great deals, as in most destinations. While groups tend to be smaller for late fall trips, it’s a great time for a quick jaunt to Ocean City as you track weather for mild temperatures in November and December. Another great pocket is back to school time through mid September. Hotels are eager for additional business and peak golf season rates haven’t quite kicked in. What about summer time at the beach? You bet! Rates
are peak for summer weekends, however, there are many facilities looking to fill weekday rooms. However, golf rates drop during the summer and you can’t assume that all courses reduce fees the same amount or consistently between weekends and weekdays.
A PROVEN GOLF DESTINATION… TIPS ON HOW TO PICK
Even if you have experience in planning an Ocean City trip, you don’t want to navigate it alone. Taking a few phone calls and spending a little time upfront, will be very worth it in the end, saving you overall time, money and possible heartache. There is nothing worse than getting chewed out by your golfing friends about a misfit selection for a trip. For example, if you like a traditional course layout, but desire wide open space, you may be
surprised to find homes all around, loud lawnmowers and kids. Or, if you like a golf course with non-intersecting fairways, but choose one where you are on top of the foursome across the way, then you may be disappointed. There are just as many considerations for choosing your lodging arrangements. There are southern boardwalk locations, beachfront, bayside, mid-point and northern accommodations along the OC strip. Or, stay more comfortably in a variety of condo and townhome options or even a private gated community.
